High Plains Raceway 8.13.2010

Life at 3ZERO3 Motorsports can often be demanding. Battling technically complex vehicles, and working well beyond the scope of a normal day is taxing. But pity us not. Counterbalancing the hard days, are the good days, along with  the really good days, AND the really really good days. Relive our most recent 3ZERO3 Motorsports track day, to find out just how righteous the really really good days are.

The 3ZERO3 crew turning  track time into tangible results.

Time spent at the track is really paying off. Not only are we seeing major improvements in lap times, but we are making new friends at every turn, and even taking time to help out the competition :) .

HPR2-1

Swapping out street tires for R Compound Hoosier semi-slicks.

Our summer of track events is designed to allow all  of us to test, tune, and improve our lap times. None of us have been better able to measure that, than Geoffrey Thomas in his 2007 Audi RS4.

HPR2-38

Lap timers don’t lie.

With the built in lap timer function in the instrument cluster of the RS, we have been able to measure a 10 second improvement in lap times since the previous outing.

HPR2-41

Real Rubber.

With the addition of R Compound, heat cycled Hoosier R6 tires mounted to light weight and smaller than stock ( 18″) Team Dynamic wheels have allowed the RS4 to really explore the limits of what the FSI V8 can do. Now time to start working on the brakes. Despite some of the largest factory brakes ever fitted to an Audi, the long  straight-aways at HPR have exposed  brake-fade issues on the heavy sedan.

HPR2-23

Bud Giday leads the way in his turbocharged Audi TT 3.2 DSG.

HPR2-6

Pushing it.

August 13th  was the day before a Porsche Club of America ( P.C.A. ) race weekend. That meant that Friday’s open lapping day had drivers looking to really dial in their cars. Cars spinning out and driving off track happened more a few times. Despite the aggressive driving displayed, these veteran drivers all left the track in one piece.

HPR2-22

Testing in the TT.

Bud was doing more than just turning hot laps at the track. Bud was receiving formal driving instruction from pro driver Robb Holland. Additionally we were closely monitoring cooling system performance, after some slight overheating concerns noted at Woody Creek Racetrack in Snowmass, CO.

HPR2-32

Robb and Bud discussing strategy and technique.

HPR2-3

The helmet says it all.

HPR2-30

Brake bleeding.

HPR2-7

More brake bleeding.

HPR2-21

More ripping the corners apart.

Since the Caymans debut the mid-engined Porsche coupe has been giving 911 owners fits. With some automotive journalists claiming that the Cayman S is the purest sports car in the Porsche line up. Dave Speights’ track prepped Cayman S does nothing to dissuade those assertions.

We first met Dave when he came to us in July in search of StopTech braking upgrades at all 4 corners.

HPR2-20

Chuck Henry’s widebody B5 S4.

It was great to see one of the most prolific B5 S4’s in the Audi community out at HPR on Friday. There is some serious rubber living inside of those wide body fenders. And Chuck put every inch of it to work on Friday. 3ZERO3 staff lent a hand to the broad fendered beast when over heating concerns ( briefly ) emerged.

HPR2-16

Alex Nelson hyper fast Rocky Mountain Corvette’s love to give the Europeans a run for their money.

HPR2-28

Thanks for all the photos PQ !

Paul Quaiser and his son Koben enjoyed a memorable father and son outing as the two reveled in the automotive equivalent of Toys R Us. Running around pointing out all the great sights and sound, Paul was kind enough to snap a few thousand photos of the cars in action.

HPR2-5

Koben Quaiser, a young man with impeccable taste.

THE PORSCHE RACERS.

HPR2-4

Nuff said.

One of the most prolific and best organized automotive groups in the country the Porsche Club of America represents a group of enthusiasts and racers, celebrating the unbridled enthusiasm of the Porsche brand.

HPR2-8

These guys travel well.

HPR2-11

Classic cool.

HPR2-12

Classic drool……

THE EXOTICS.

No one has been more excited about this summers track days than Geoffrey Thomas. On this day he was able to coax his wife Bree out to the track with her 2010 Audi S4 3.0T, along with friend Andrew Price driving Scott Mellin’s Aston Martin DBS.

HPR2-2

Oh yes.

HPR2-18

6 Litres, 12 Cylinders, 1 Oil smudge.

The angry 6.0 litre 12 cylinder power plant living inside the Aston Martin flagship is no garage queen. Showing that the DBS wasn’t afraid to roll up her sleeves and get out and play, I decided not to edit out the oil smudge imperfections on the intake manifold. This exotic supercar wears the dirt proudly.

HPR2-29

The V12 is ferocious.

HPR2-36

More Lamborghini’s !

We didn’t know who was piloting this Lamborghini Gallardo, but we hope to see this sporting owner at next years Snowmass Automobili Exotica !

HPR2-9

Ethan Hach’s Acura is N S seXy !

All in all we had another great day at High Plains Raceway. Driver education, progress, and camaraderie all came together at the track.  We cannot overstate how important these track days are not only to the 3ZERO3 Motorsports brand, but also to the motorsports community.

HPR is a young and growing track. We feel it our duty  to help support our local track. Can you imagine if we didn’t have this resource for Colorado motorsports enthusiasts ? Your next opportunity for automotive philanthropy will be Friday Sept 17th, with yet another PCA event happening on the following day! Don’t miss it.

3ZERO3 Motorsports continues to build and expand on our core values of supporting our customers, friends and local motorsports community. If you haven’t visited our website to learn about how we maintain, repair, and modify our beloved Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche brands, come check us out.

Brakes, brakes, brakes, brakes. Anyone know where I can get some decent brakes for my whip?

Stoptech makes a kit…. I think you will need 27″ wheels though.

I’ll need 30’s to fit enough brake for my beast. She likes to go, but doesn’t like to stop! I’m sure you fellas will get it figured out before next event!

Scott, the blog editorial team will not have post any shots of your Avant until you add a big turbo.
    Don’t you OWN a performance shop ? :)
