We are proud to announce that after 6 purposeful years of serving the the needs of local VW, Audi, and Porsche owners we are moving (up in the world). As of September 26th 2011, we will be inhabiting a new space.

5000 Robb St, near I-70 and Kipling will not be a place where our dreams are born, rather it will be a place where our dreams take flight.

For us, the significance of the move is profound. This marks for us, a considerable step towards becoming the type of shop we have all dream about. In this new space we will be better equipped to service the needs of every VW, Audi and Porsche owner.

Off Kipling St in Wheat Ridge, find 49th Ave AKA the North side (I-70) frontage road.

Take 49th Ave West, past Medved Chevy and past the ever curious Antique Mall.

MAIN WORKSHOP :

Why “the main workshop” ?

The layout of the new building allows us the opportunity to define a primary workspace, as well as dedicated spaces for the alignment rack, and inspired specialty project area.

WAITING ROOM & RECEPTION :

Staying on trend with an increasingly productive customer base, the new waiting room is more than couches, television, and magazines. There are now multiple dedicated work stations where you can work while watching us work.

CONFERENCE ROOM :

If you need to take a meeting with the team the conference room accommodates all-comers.

ALIGNMENT RACK

When you have a state of the industry alignment rack like we do, you give this piece of specialized equipment room to breathe. Our ALIGNMENT RACK will receive a zero clearance installation allowing even the lowest of lowered vehicles to be driven straight on.

Prospeed RS683 Brake Fluid: Drama, Performance, Technology.

A man walks in thru the doors at 3ZERO3 Motorsports, carrying with him quart sized bottles of what he claimed was liquid gold. “Liquid gold you say ? Well I’ll be……”. Scott and Max then listened dubiously for a spell while the heavy handed sales pitch continued on. As soon as they were given pause, Scott & Max began a line of questioning that ought to be described as extensive, awkward, or otherwise excessive. Motivated and clearly bothered by our bombastic interrogation, the sales pitch was nevertheless sustained. Scott and Max knew that their skeptical approach was at best aggressive, but what happened later that day, no one expected ! Intrigued? Entertained? Keep reading……

What follows in this blog is the tale of how liquid gold has made it into our race cars, our personal cars, and our mothers cars. If you don’t care about brake fluid you should stop reading this blog immediately ( but hey, thanks for stopping by). However, for the rest of you this might just be worth your time.

With a dry boiling point of 683 °F Prospeed RS683 has:

The highest dry boiling point of any performance or racing brake fluid available.
BOOM.

COMPRESSIBILITY

In addition to its ridiculously high boiling point, Prospeed RS683 has the arguably ( we argue) the best pedal feel of any high performance brake fluid. The name of the game here is compressibility. Or for Prospeed RS683, the lack there of. And this fact is the by-product of some hardcore fluid engineering.

RS683 VS SILICONE BASED FLUIDS.

Most manufacturers use the same tricks to achieve the same results. That means that in addition to lofty boiling points, high performance fluid manufacturers need their brake fluid to resist absorbing water.

To achieve both goals some fluid engineers enlist the help of good old Dimethyl Polysiloxane. Seems like a good idea right ? You need to ensure that your brake fluid is free of water, why wouldn’t you use Dimethyl Polysiloxane, right ? WRONG !

Dimethyl Polysiloxane, YOU’RE GOING DOWN !

While we try not to use the blog as an opportunity to throw polymeric organosilicon compounds under the bus, however in this case Dimethyl Polysiloxane, really had it coming. Step into the arena of air solubility, and prepare to get worked!

DORKY JARGON:

Dimethyl Polysiloxane exhibits air soluibility.

Air solubility does awful things to pedal feel.

More specifically:

“Air Solubility – It has been reported that Dimethyl Polysiloxane fluid, which is a major part of silicone based low water tolerant type brake fluids can typically contain dissolved air at a level of 16%±3% by volume at standard temperature and pressure. This compares with a typical level of 5%±2% by volume of dissolved air for glycol ether based type fluids. An increase in brake pedal travel may be experienced under severe operating conditions, especially at higher altitudes and high temperature conditions.” -SAE J1705, Appendix A, A.2.2.8

Translation : silicon based high temp, water resistant so called high performance brake fluid, suffer what can be described as a compressible pedal. Prospeed RS683 brake fluid uses Polyalkylene Glycol Ether which is 3 times less compressible than silicone type fluids, even when heated.

RESULT : Prospeed RS683 will contribute to a more positive pedal feel.

FROM THE LAB TO SHOP.

And then we started putting RS683 in our cars. All our cars.

Our 2010 World Challenge GTI.
Supercharged and naturally aspirated Audi RS4’s both wearing Stasis Motorsport suspension and R compound rubber.
Porsche 911’s, and Caymans prepped for World Challenge, Porsche Club racing, and street use.
A grab bag of cars that will never see anything more decorated than daily driving action.

OUR RESULTS :

We felt that the performance benefit was immediate and significant, with the dedicated track cars showing the biggest benefits.

The change to RS683 meant that our brake fluid was for all intents and purposes, had become a reinforced link in our chain of braking.

The brake fluid in our cars could now better handle abuse, and extreme temperature. As braking performance increases, so does heat. And as a result we no longer had a mushy pedal holding impeding confidence and performance.

Ultimately we found that in most cases the improvement in fluid surpassed the performance of major hardware. Meaning that the fluid could handle the heat but pads and rotors were getting too hot. And further development and upgrades to brake hardware and brake cooling yielded notable improvements in lap time, feel, and all around badassness.

Last summer we watched as Geoff Thomas went from 2:15 + lap times, to nearly making the 2:00 club at High Plains Raceway. Most cars that lap that fast weigh half as much as Geoff’s RS4.

BUT DON’T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT

On November 30 2010, Andretti Autosport announced that Prospeed would be their technical supplier. This based primarily upon the performance of the RS683 Fluid.

Andretti Autosport is owned and operated by Michael Andretti. Andretti competed for 19 years in the CART championship before moving to the IndyCar Series in 2003 and proceeding to win 3 championships in his first 5 seasons.

Won IndyCar Series championships in 2005 Dan Wheldon
Won IndyCar Series championships in 2007 Dario Franchitti

Danica along with Andretti team mates Marco Andretti, and Ryan Hunter Reay are all in the hunt for the Indycar points race. The team is currently occupying 10th, 8th, and 7th places respectively.

World Challenge 2010 : Season Wrap Up

It seems like only yesterday we were staring at a bone-stock, certified pre-owned VW GTI on the Emich showroom floor. Staring at the car wondering, if we could do it. Our resources were finite, but our passion and enthusiasm for success knew no bounds. In the end we did it. We took a street car, and turned it into the fastest Touring Car to Lap at Mosport International Raceway this season, and we did it all in 27 days. We took a freshly assembled racing team, and proved to the rest of the world, (and perhaps to ourselves) that we weren’t just as good as we thought, we were in fact better. In our first season of competition in the World Challenge Touring Car class, we finished 4th in points, but to us it feels like we won it all.

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

Transformed a stock GTI into a red blooded race car in 27 Days. ( Thats 648 hours!).
Finished 3rd Place @ Mosport International Raceway; Ontario Canada ( 1st race of the season).
Mosport International Raceway : Set track record for Fastest Lap in a World Challenge Touring car.
Finished 2nd Place @ Virginia International Raceway
Hard Charger Award @ Virginia International Raceway ( most cars passed in a single lap).
Qualified 2nd @ Mid Ohio Sports Car Course
Selected as the Front Wheel Drive test car for the Pirelli Tire Test @ High Plains Raceway
Finished 4th in points at the end of the season.

The way we see it, racing is a team sport. TIRE TESTING AT HIGH PLAINS RACEWAY

We were thrilled when Pirelli invited us to represent the front wheel drive test vehicle at High Plains Raceway ( our home track!). I mean who wouldn’t love to do this ? A cold, crisp fall day, wide open race track, Italian Tire Engineers and the opportunity to destroy free tires ! Opps did we say ‘destroy’, we meant engage in at the limit tire testing on a wide open race track.

Checking the suspension. Always, always, always checking the suspension.

We shaved 5 seconds off our lap times with the improved traction of the Pirelli Tires. Pretty amazing.

EMICH TECH SESSION

At the end of the season, we were lucky enough to be the guests of Fred Emich, and his team at Emich Volkswagen for a Tech Session with the GTI. However, the tech session was more than merely geeking out about cool VW racecar technology, it was a great evening of celebration.

Besides uncovering some of the fantastic race inspired technology inherent in this particular Volkswagen product, the relationship between Emich VW ( a dealer ) and 3ZERO3 Motorsports ( an independent ) highlights the fact that these two businesses can have a symbiotic relationship. Its great to see that the leadership at Emich is so supportive of the VW performance brand values. It highlights why their progressive business model is so successful, because they support the brand values closest to the enthusiasts hearts & minds.

I don’t care what he says. Robb looks best in Nomex.

3ZERO3 Motorsports has partnered with Lamborghini Club of America, and Snowmass Village to create a lifestyle event that bring us all together for a weekend of epic mountain driving, sexy cars, savory food, and the kind of experience that will make your summer unforgettable.

Great effort has been taken to ensure that this weekend provides real FUN, and won’t break the bank. The featured exotic cars are more than worthy of our attention.Close your eyes, and imagine ( if you will ) six figure super cars, lapping full throttle with the mountains behind them. This is Gran Turismo in living color!

We have ensured that the cost of the weekend is something that we feel provides real value. And thru it all, the weekend won’t leave you feeling like you need to take another day off to recover.

—————————————————THE SCHEDULE ————————————————————

FRIDAY : Meet us friday morning at 3ZERO3, as we all meet up and get prepared for the drive down Highway 285, with a scheduled stop in Buena Vista for lunch. Then over Independence pass and into Snowmass where you will get checked into your hotel, and have time to relax before our dinner at Buchi Sushi.
SATURDAY : This isn’t a working weekend, yes you will be able to sleep in, and then meet everyone at 10:00am for a multimedia motorsports seminar in the Silvertree Hotel. Class will be in session until lunch time. We will grab a quick bite and head to Woody Creek Raceway where we will hang out at track while a few dozen Lamborghini’s and other exclusive exotics hot lap for the afternoon session. People will be given the opportunity to sign up, and ride shotgun in a Lamborghini with pro-driver Robb Holland….. details to follow. After the track, we will head back to the hotel where you will be able to put your feet up for a few, then get shined up and ready for the evening festivities. Dinner at Sneaky’s Tavern, and no cost entry to the party at Basecamp Bar & Grille in the Base Village.
SUNDAY : Wake up at a reasonable hour, we will have a brief weekend wrap up, then a drive back home. For those of you looking to maximize the scenery we will take the back roads to Denver. However feel free to shoot onto I-70 for a quicker ride home.

GOT QUESTIONS ? WE DID!

Do I get to drive my car on the track ? Track access is by invitation only. The track at Woody Creek is a 1.1 mile road course that simply cannot handle a large group. You will however, be able to hang at the track with six figure exotics, and see, hear and smell these cars lap. There will be other track events this summer, this weekend is all about the lifestyle… ( and not blowing your budget !)
So what does my $125.00 get me ? Great question. We have gone to great lengths to ensure that there is a real value for the price of each ticket. Your $125.00 will provide the following : A fabulous goody bag stuffed with merchandise and discounts from event sponsors. Discounted lodging and discounted dining are also provided with your ticket purchase. Serious dinner and drink discounts are for event participants only ! Access to the saturday motorsports clinic, and access to private racetrack on saturday. Sponsors will also be giving away products all weekend long !

3ZERO3 Motorsports has been charging thru the first quarter of 2010. If you haven’t been keeping tabs on us, you may have missed some of the exciting projects in and around the shop:

Completion of Val’s custom equipped V8 A4 racer.

STARTING THE YEAR OFF RIGHT

To work at 3ZERO3 Motorsports is not to be employed, but rather to be part of a family. We were all thankful to be the guests of Technician Tucker and his wonderful wife Megan. They took all of us in for a night filled with delectable cuisine, and hand crafted libations ( nay : food and beverage !). It is very hard to get all of the 3ZERO3 family in the same place at the same time, but when we do, it always makes for a memorable evening.

STAYING BUSY

Despite the dawdling US economy, our parking is constantly brimming with Audi’s, Porsches and Volkswagens. We are happy and grateful to be so busy. Thankfully Technician ‘Kiwi’ Andrews has made a full recovery from his shoulder surgery and is back swinging wrenches just in the nick of time.

Cars as far as the eye can see. Ferdinand Porsche would be proud.

Aaron digs deep on a 1982 Porsche 911, while Jason tracks down an electrical gremlin on a late model VW Eurovan.

We missed this guy ! Technician Keith ‘Kiwi’ Andrews returns after some scheduled maintenance. The shop just wasn’t the same without our resident New Zealander !

And the lovely Red Bull girls always know when to stop by and give us a boost.

SUPERCHARGED GLORY

February was officially supercharger month at 3ZERO3 Motorsports. In the span of a few weeks we added 4 PES G4 supercharger units to an Audi RS4, an Audi S6 Avant, and 2 Audi S4’s. The addition of forced induction on each of these platforms has vaulted all of these fantastic 8 cylinder, all wheel drive sports cars into the realm of true super cars. Dropping the clutch of these heavy hitting Audi V8’s while hearing the supercharger whine AND boiling all 4 tires from a dead stop is truly addictive.

3ZERO3 Motorsports has made a name for itself as the premier supercharged tuner for not only Colorado, but in all of North America. Have questions about how to make your naturally aspirated Audi S4, S6, A6, A8, Q7, Touareg, or RS4 go faster ? We have the answers !

With 4 supercharger installs under his belt in a single month, Marshall-Law is writing the book on PES supercharger installation, literally.

DYNO TIME

With at least 8 different dyno session scheduled for all of the supercharged Audi V8 cars alone , we spent alot of time on the dyno. Not to mention the great success we had with Tom Seabrook’s STG 3 Audi S4. Dyno testing revealed that his car was missing a significant amount of power. Replacing his injectors, and updating his ECM with a new custom tune yielded BIG power increases.

Dave Elkan’s supercharged B6 S4 Avant laying down nearly 100whp improvement over stock. When you consider the fact that naturally aspirated engines lose 3% of power per 1,000ft of elevation gain, you can really appreciate how much faster Dave’s S4 is in his hometown of Snowmass CO.

We are avoiding any gratuitous ‘go-fast-dyno’ references. Oh wait…..

NEW FRIENDS

With the onset of the new year, we have found ourselves awash with new contacts, new customers, and new friends. People like Euro Berge Magazine and Photographer Ronnie Renaldi have been hanging around the shop lately presenting new and exciting opportunities for 3ZERO3 Motorsports customers and enthusiasts across Colorado !

Looking forward to future collaborations with Richard Melick and the Euro Berge team.

Marty Lowandowski’s has dropped his A6 2.7T to street sweeper status. Marty is a hard working active local enthusiast, we are lucky to help maintain his gorgeous Audi.

Ever since we built Matt Collins’ RS4, we have been inundated with other local RS4 owners. Here RS4 owner Ben Timmons with friend Adam Mattivi discuss global politics while Aaron services the RS4.

NEW CARS

Modified B8 Audi A4’s are becoming more and more frequent visitors to 3ZERO3 Motorsports. James Huzella’s murdered out 2.0TFSI is a prime example.

Tradeshow Emporium owner Willis Wood recently picked up this modified B6 A4 1.8T Avant for pennies on the dollar. His car representing a great example of the value in the used car market.

NEW PRESS

The Moxie Media Group was here in February shooting the latest promo video for Universal Technical Institute, featuring 3ZERO3 Motorsports as a success story for their technical training program. Stay tuned to see the web version of this video as it is released.

Local celebrity photographer and automotive enthusiast Ronnie Renaldi has been frequenting much of our supercharged activity. And we could not be happier !

NEW PROJECTS

Now this is a project we love . Brian & Allison Thenhaus’ 1982 Porsche 911 SC is getting brought back to life courtesy of 3ZERO3 Motorsports air cooled Porsche specialist Randy Muller. Focusing first on the mechanical items, followed by body work and interior, stay tuned for progress updates on this modern classic.

GETTING THOSE PORSCHES READY FOR SUMMER

We have been busy lately getting our Porsche customers’ vehicles ready for summer. Track prep, and motor rebuilds have been the name of the game for father and son racing team Mike and Sean Thul. But not all Porsches take the winter off. Vail resident Rys Olsen ROCKS his 997 Carrera 4S all year long.

The Porsche 951 cars are becoming more and more popular amongst track junkies in Colorado. With a rear mounted transaxle, 50/50 weight distribution, Porsche genes, and low entry cost, you’d be crazy not to love these cars.

EVENTS

The winter season doesn’t present too many opportunities to get out there and put our cars to the test. Except for ice racing of course. We had a blast tearing up the frozen surfaces of Georgetown Lake this winter.
